Rays of Sunshine

Sunshine in Hospital | Rays of Sunshine

The ask

When Rays of Sunshine came to us with their latest project brief, it wasn’t just another “make a nice video” kind of day. They had a mission: to celebrate International Day of Play with a superhero-sized dose of joy at the London Evelina Hospital, and to show the world why their Sunshine in Hospitals programme matters.

The brief? A short explainer-style video that would show not just the colourful moments, but the real impact behind them. The Rays of Sunshine team wanted interviews with their Rays of Sunshine staff and hospital staff who could share the wider benefits of days like this on wards and teams.

And of course, the most important voices: the families, talking about what those playful, uplifting moments meant for them. All of this was to be woven together with bright, joyful footage of children and families enjoying the activities.

The video needed to shine a light on the why behind the programme, showing that these events are about much more than “a nice day out.” They are about the healing power of joy, distraction, and togetherness. Rays of Sunshine wanted their audience to come away not just understanding what they do, but feeling why it matters.

The approach

To bring the stories to life, we knew it couldn’t just be one voice. It had to be a chorus. So, we built the film from multiple points of view, making sure everyone who mattered most had their say.

We started with the Rays of Sunshine CEO, who set the scene and explained the heart behind the Sunshine in Hospitals programme. Then came hospital staff and the families, sharing how days like this don’t just light up the children’s faces; they send ripples of joy across the whole ward, lifting spirits for staff and families alike.

Visually, we sprinkled in plenty of joy. Think volunteers zooming down corridors in superhero capes, families giggling mid-bubble party, and all those little candid bursts of fun that make you smile without even realising it.

The outcome

The Rays of Sunshine team told us they were thrilled with how the film captured not just the energy of the day, but the heart of their mission. The video gave them a powerful new way to showcase the “why” behind their work and to rally more support for bringing sunshine into hospitals across the country.

Super film. Really captures the spirit of what we do and the difference we are making to the children and their families. Well done to you and the whole team on the great work and the making of the film. Jack WIlson, Snr Comms Manager
